Movie Central is proud to play a key role in the development, licensing and broadcast of Canadian films, investing in acclaimed features such as Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus starring Christopher Plummer, Heath Ledger and Johnny Depp; Michael McGowan's Score the Hockey Musical starring Nelly Furtado, and Olivia Newton-John; Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage featuring the rock band Rush; and the much anticipated sequel, Fubar II, starring David Lawrence and Paul Spence. In addition, Movie Central has helped develop an exceptional slate of original drama series for television, including Call Me Fitz, starring Jason Priestley; Less Than Kind starring Jesse Camacho; Pillars of the Earth, starring Donald Sutherland, Allison Pill, and Gordon Pinsent; Ken Finkeleman's new series Good Dog; and Skins, the North American take on the popular UK series.
Movie Central also licenses feature films for broadcast, providing a crucial viewing platform for Canadian feature films after their theatrical release. Titles include Barney's Version, starring Paul Giamatti and Dustin Hoffman; The Beginner's Guide to Endings, starring Harvey Keitel, Daydream Nation starring Kat Dennings and Andie MacDowell; Bruce McDonald's Hard Core Logo II; and The Whistleblower, starring Rachel Weisz.
Administered through Movie Central, the Corus Made With Pay Fund provides financial assistance to develop Canadian dramatic movies and original series, with a focus on projects intended for broadcast on pay television.
