Characters
Frank Gallagher
Frank Gallagher is the proud single dad of six smart, spirited, independent kids, who without him would be... perhaps better off. A hopeless alcoholic and troublemaker, when Frank isn't at the bar spending what little money the family has, he's usually passed out on the floor. Frank is constantly scheming on how to beat the system and support his addictions. His latest meal ticket is his agoraphobic neighbor Sheila, who keeps him housed and well fed as long as he submits to her outrageous sexual domination. But if Sheila comes to terms with her phobia, she may be moving on and Frank may be moving out. Played by William H. Macy.
Fiona Gallagher
Fiona is in the difficult position of being the oldest Gallagher child, so most of the responsibility and child-rearing falls on her young shoulders. This blossoming young woman takes it all in stride — she's clearly been doing it for a long time. She had her heart broken by the devilish player Steve, and now she's out to have a good time and enjoy singlehood for a while. But is Steve really gone for good? Played by Emmy Rossum.
Steve
Steve is a handsome, well-bred guy with a lot of moxie, a lot of money, and a rap sheet a mile long. After a heartbroken Fiona was forced to choose her family over him, Steve left for Costa Rica alone. But is he really gone for good, or will the lure of Fiona prove irresistible? Played by Justin Chatwin.
Carl
Carl is the second youngest Gallagher child, and is basically nothing but trouble. He's a daredevil and a bully with a destructive streak a mile wide. But he's a Gallagher at heart, and he's not afraid to go to extreme measures to help the family make ends meet. Played by Ethan Cutkosky.
Debbie
One of the middle Gallagher children, Debbie is helpful, sensitive and has a good heart. She longs for familial stability, and was even willing to pretend a complete stranger with dementia was her grandmother. But now she's starting to grow up. She helps Fiona run a day care center in the house, and she's determined to get a room of her own at any cost. Played by Emma Kenney.
Ian
Ian is the third Gallagher child, and apparently the most like their mother. He's in Army ROTC at school and is considering applying to West Point, if only he can get his grades up. He works at a local grocery store, where he's having an on-again/off-again gay affair with his married Muslim boss. Played by Cameron Monaghan.
Lip
Short for Phillip, Lip is the second Gallagher child and and by far the smartest. He's a straight A student, but he also has a penchant for trouble that threatens to derail him academically. His relationship with wild child neighbor Karen is threatening to break his heart, and the new illegal bare-knuckle boxing matches he runs are threatening to break the rest of him. Played by Jeremy Allen White.
