Mike
Newly promoted with a baby on the way, Mike Sweeney is starting to get his life back on track. His reationship with wife Audrey is more solid than ever and his two girls are becoming women. When Mike takes on the case of two young, murdered drug runners, his perfect world begins to unravel. The pressures of having a new baby boy and Sadie putting herself out there as a rookie cop leave him raw with anxiety. Mike finds comfort in a relationship with fellow cop and ex-soldier Ivan Sujic - a man who unknown to Mike, has a sordid past with his brother-in-law Miro, during the war in Kosovo. When Mike pieces together the drug runner case...he is totally unprepared for what he discovers. Played by Hugh Dillon.
Audrey
Confident and sexy in her role of new mommy to be, Audrey has put the past behind her. Her relationships with Mike and the girls are solid and loving and she has taken her new son-in-law to be, Ray Jr., under her wing. She shares Mike's immediate connection with Ivan and quickly accepts him as part of the family. She also sees it as her personal mission to wipe away the poisonous impact of Ray Prager on Sadie and support the blossoming relationship between Ray Jr. and Sadie. Played by Hélène Joy.
Sadie
All grown up and about to graduate from the police academy, Sadie is starting a life of her own. She is living with boyfriend Ray Jr. and has just found out she is expecting his child. She is terrified of telling her father and refuses to do so, not even sure she will keep the child. To make matters worse, she still feels the presence of Ray Prager haunting her in her dreams and in her soul. When an opportunity arises to work on the drug runner case, Sadie jumps at the chance to prove herself. When her job takes a more dangerous turn, Sadie begins to worry that she won't be able to handle motherhood and being a police officer. Played by Laurence Leboeuf.
Ray Jr.
With his parents both gone, Ray Jr. has made a place for himself with the Sweeney's. Madly in love with Sadie, he has all the enthusiasm of a father-to-be; despite his fears that Sadie may decide she isn't ready to be a mom. With Audrey's guidance, he scores himself a job at the hospital, but as Sadie begins to put herself in danger in her work on the drug runner case, he fears the worst about her ability to be a mom and struggles to find a way to convince her to not get rid of the baby. Played by Greyston Holt.
Maddie
Despite her age, Maddie is the glue holding the Sweeney's together. Blunt and unforgiving, she demands to be heard - even when no one wants to hear what she has to say. With Sadie wrapped up in her own problems and Mike unable to face his problems, Maddie is drawn to Ivan, the only person able to comfort her as she struggles to get her family back on track. When Mike sees this unlikely bond form between them, he must finally face the hard truth...that his daughter is closer to this strange man with a dark past than her own father. Played by Cicely Austin.
